What is NEMT?

NEMT stands for Non-Emergency Medical Transportation—a service that helps eligible individuals get to medical appointments when they can’t drive themselves. This includes:

  • Doctor visits

  • Dialysis or chemotherapy

  • Outpatient surgeries

  • Mental health and substance use treatment

  • Physical therapy

Michigan Medicaid covers these trips if they are medically necessary and approved in advance.

If you have active Michigan Medicaid coverage and no other reliable way to get to your appointment, you’re likely eligible for NEMT. This includes:

How to Schedule a Ride with Lighthouse

We’ve made scheduling rides easier than ever through our partnership with Route Genie, a leading transportation management platform.

There are two ways to book:

1. Private Pay App (Accepts Medicaid)

  • Download the Route Genie rider app

  • Choose Lighthouse Med Transport as your provider

  • Enter your appointment details

  • Select “Pay with Michigan Medicaid” at checkout

2. Facility Portal

If you live in a nursing home, assisted living facility, or group home, your care team can schedule rides through our Route Genie facility portal with just a few clicks.

What If I Don’t Have Insurance?

If you’re not currently covered by Medicaid or any insurance provider, Lighthouse Med Transport offers a 25% discount on private pay rides.
